Unfamiliar with Coronado?
Coronado, the "Enchanted City," was originally comprised of two separate pieces of land in the San Diego Bay: a large island to the North, and a peninsula to the South.
The peninsula became a magical vacation destination and the island became a Naval Air Station. In 1944, the waterway between the island and the peninsula was filled in, creating one large landmass.
This is why, although technically a peninsula, Coronado is referred to as an "island resort."
